Re-manufacturing will not have been able to change that.If you look closely at the section labeled "MEMORY" printed on the PCB , you can see that the factory SMD resistor is placed perfectly across the "8G" pads. Furthermore, running cat /proc/cpuinfo returns the revision code d04170.
This is similar to buying a mini PC on eBay that came from the factory with 8GB RAM but since has been updated to 16GB by the seller. There is obviously no factory warranty. Even so, some resellers of used or refurbished equipment offer a warranty and it may be possible to return.
In my opinion selling a field-upgraded Pi as new is wrong but selling such a device as used is not.
For example, it's possible an original 8GB Pi broke due to a failed project. Swapping the still working 8GB RAM to a new system is exactly what people have been doing since the 70's. With a Pi it's just harder due to the soldering and firmware updates.
Out of curiosity, how much cheaper was it than a new 8GB Raspberry Pi?
