Sadly I am wrong. This does not solve the problem. The monitor does go to sleep, but still wakes up about 60 seconds later, despite the PIR still being covered and dark in a box. Any ideas gratefully received.
Disconnect the PIR entirely, then run your program again. This will eliminate the pir as the cause.

You could also try turning on the pull-up for the PIR input, in case electrical noise is being interpreted as a signal.

Can you link to the PIR product you are using?
