* Your image link doesn't work.
Fixed it
* A sample of the corruption might be interesting.
I'm on a different PC right now, so sampling the screen is impossible. Tio displays the "unprintable character" for about 2% to 5% of the characters transmitted. Another ~2% are completely lost.
* In which direction is the corruption observed?
The corruption shows up in the tio terminal. So, the PI receiving from the Atmel/Microchip AVR. However, the data going from the PI to AVR is a fraction of the data coming the other way. So, it's possible it is happening in both directions.
* How is your AVR (I presume you mean an Atmel, not an AV Receiver) physically connected to the UART pins?
The Atmel/Microchip AVR is running at 3.3v. So, the serial pins from the PI connector are connected directly to the pins on the AVR. There is no line level or buffering in between.
