Hey njh.

Thanks for your help on this. I bought Mechanical Keyboard Switches with 3mm annode led lights. I could just stick them into the button from underneath.
With the WS812B I probably wont be able to do that. I also can`t just mount the keayboard switches on top of a WS812B. They wouldn`t let the light through. Not sure if there is a better solution.

The 5v issue I haven`t even considered yet. I am pretty much a newb in this field. Do you know what would be a good solution to get some external 5v power for the raspberry pi? Right now it just lives from usb power, but I also would like to avoid to have basically 2 power sources. Ideally a device should just draw everything from power source
