While barrel connectors are usually robust they are problematic; coming in different sizes, it's not always the same polarity on the centre pin, can even be AC, and they unfortunately make it easy to connect a wrong voltage supply to equipment, which may instantly destroy it.
Raspberry PI have consequently shunned barrel connectors, consider them not to be appropriate. Except on the CM4IO board and the Build HAT which use barrel connectors.
